I’m participating in NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month). I’m writing a poem a day for the month of April and posting it here on my blog to share. Go to NaPoWriMo.net for more details and to view many more participating poets.

Joy

Oh Joy! Rapturous joy!
My smile so wide
Nothing could wipe it from my face
This joy in my heart, plain as day
Such a moment only dreamed about
Never daring to hope too much, too long
But today birds are singing all their songs
Only for me, yes just for me

From a mountain I can fly
Or jump a mile high
Heart may explode from my chest
Ribs barely hold it back
I’m sure it will burst
If I come down to earth
I’ll keep flying overhead
Couldn’t come down if life depends

Love overflows
Such joy I’ve never known!
Boils over and rains down
O’er everyone, anyone around
He wants to marry Me!
I said yes, can it be?

My face is like to break
This constant smile it can not take
I feel it cracking, yet don’t care
All is well, all is fair
Love is mine to be had
He is mine, I am his
To the world I will shout
Gorgeous ring I will flout

Unashamed, unabashed
Mid-sentence I may laugh
So much joy can’t be contained
Oh, to think, it’s mine to claim
Can not focus on aught else
Mind is mush, I’m ruined now
I can’t care, all filled with glee
Barely contain this feeling in me
