I’m participating in NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month). I’m writing a poem a day for the month of April and posting it here on my blog to share. Go to NaPoWriMo.net for more details and to view many more participating poets.
Heavy
The world has fallen on your shoulders
I feel the weight as I walk into the room
It’s heavy on your face and in your posture
Don’t let it end up crushing you
You are loved though you can’t feel it
Not alone, though you’re in the dark
Can’t see the arms reaching out to lift you
If only you would ask or shout or talk
No one knows how heavy is your burden
You hide it well, it goes all but unseen
You say you’re fine and truthfully seem it
Few see through the lie you speak
Don’t hide yourself and push away your people
We’re here for you if you would let us in
May not have the answers you’re in need of
May not be the best help you can get
Real love and an ear I’ll always offer
If you choose nearby I’ll merely sit
Pour troubles out like water from a kettle
Let it melt me down right to the core
Hold my hand, a shoulder here to cry on
Let those tears flood out and feel cleansed
Get it out of you before it’s lethal
Please, dear friend, don’t give up or give in
