I’m participating in NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month). I’m writing a poem a day for the month of April and posting it here on my blog to share. Go to NaPoWriMo.net for more details and to view many more participating poets.

My True Friend

We met only briefly
Didn’t have much time
Busy with our families
Navigating lives

Struggling to climb over
Each hurdle as they came
But though we met a moment
That moment ever changed

One won’t often find
Kindred spirits like we two
Understands your mind
Sees right into you

Appreciates your strangeness
Your insecurities
Doesn’t try to change you
Just lets you be

I may not know where you grew up
Or places you have been
Who your parents are
Who were your best friends

Hardly know a thing about you
Now I think it through
Even so I know you deeply
And you know me deeply, too

From the start it felt
We’d always known each other
Bosom buddies, kindred spirits
A connection unexplained

Your joy of life’s contagious
Wisdom freely shared
I can not express enough
Your friendship’s incompared
