I’m participating in NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month). I’m writing a poem a day for the month of April and posting it here on my blog to share. Go to for more details and to view many more participating poets.

Verbal Toxin

If you knew what your words could do
How they cut into me like a knife
My face may be blank, an empty slate
But inside I’m sliced up and diced

I stand here strong with chin up high
Any moment, crumple and die
Hope you can’t see my quivering knees
Shaking of my lower lip

About to fall, I’m an unstable wall
Trying to show a strong front
But seeping in is your verbal toxin
Slowly eating away at my heart
